This advanced training session is designed for clinicians who are already involved in ADHD prescribing and medication review. It is suitable for practitioners who have completed initial ADHD prescribing training as well as experienced prescribers looking to further develop their clinical decision-making skills when managing ADHD medication.

What is the course about?

The session uses a case-based, interactive discussion format to explore common and complex clinical scenarios encountered in ADHD treatment. Participants will work through a series of real-world cases and discuss different management approaches.

  • Medication titration strategies
  • Managing suboptimal response
  • Switching between stimulant preparations
  • Recognising when to consider second-line treatment options such as non-stimulant medications
  • Reviewing patients whose treatment is not progressing as expected
  • Strategies for managing side effects and treatment challenges
  • Brief refresher on ADHD medications including stimulant and non-stimulant treatments

Specialist Session Groups

To allow for focused discussion and clinically relevant cases, participants can choose from three specialist session groups:

  • Group 1 – Children and Young People: Titration strategies, assessing treatment effectiveness in school settings, managing common side effects such as appetite and sleep disturbance, and supporting families through medication adjustments
  • Group 2 – Adults with ADHD: Optimising treatment, managing medication wear-off, switching between stimulant preparations, and addressing treatment challenges in adult patients
  • Group 3 – ADHD with Co-occurring Conditions: Complex presentations where ADHD occurs alongside anxiety, depression, autism, or substance misuse, and how comorbidities influence treatment choices
